Polow has been working already since the early eighties continuously and almost exclusively in the field of hot processes on issues directly related with today’s call for climate change, sustainability, circularity and the desire  for more local economy. This call is underway across the globe as corporates, communities and societies are moving from the old-fashioned linear economic approach of: ‘make, use, dispose’ to a more circular economy where the aspiration is to keep materials out of landfill and incinerators. Realisation of the need to close the economic loop so that used materials and waste streams are treated as the renewable resources they truly are is dawning on decision-makers the world over. This coincides with increased focus on, and business innovation around, viewing waste as a commodity to better manage long-term social, environmental, economic and health impacts. Sometimes this also reveal new or different opportunities, ranging from new partnerships to the birth of new products.

One example is organic waste which can be used  as a fuel to produce energy, another example would be the already well known option of recovering heat from liquid or gaseous waste streams.

Polow has assembled great expertise with issues ranging from simple heat recovery projects over thermal emission control equipment for the prevention of emissions (e.g. smell, hydrocarbons or nitrogen compounds), pyrolysis processes as carbonisation or torrefaction of any organic waste into a well transportable fuel or into a salable cooking coal,

to sustainable installations for the combustion or gasification of any organic or synthetic fuel, mainly being waste materials, ranging from waste wood and clippings to waste paper and plastics.

Thanks to many realized projects Polow today can also be your partner in the mentioned fields ranging from the delivery of the design, incl. the engineering and up to the turn key delivery of installations. Polow has many times shown to be creative when using existing technologies to be suit the specific needs of a new application.

In the next pages some of the used technologies shall be described as a guideline for your decision to involve Polow for your project. Our motto is that there is not a waste which cannot be used for the conversion into electricity, heat and/or a fuel. We can also offer upfront testing as Polow has several test installation which can be used to validate the process; on our location in Moerdijk, near Rotterdam we can offer many different technologies: pyrolysis, carbonisation, combustion, gasification, calcination and expansion or exfoliation.
