Polow owns several test facilities which allow her to do tests on new fuels, both to prove that pyrolysis or carbonisation is a distinct and economic possibility to convert “waste” materials into useful products like cooking coal or a combustible energy carrier, or to prove that combustion or gasification are fair possibilities to convert your waste material into energy or a char. In the cause of an assessment as to what technology could be used to convert raw organic materials into meaningful and valuable products. Polow can provide you with the data to base your decision on and at the same time execute tests to prove that the technology at hand is possible and viable.

Polow has two test installations up and running: there is a gasification site with a Swirl reactor in a direct mode installed, which can be used both for gasification and combustion and there is a carbonisation site where we can do the same, converting “waste” into useful products, be it char or coal.

At Moerdijk (NL) CharcoTec, daughter company to Polow, has the possibility to test its efficient en economic pyrolysis process in order to establish the suitability of pyrolysis for the conversion of organic waste into char, either to be used as cooking coal or as biochar. On the results of the tests Polow would be the perfect partner to deign your production installation and help you build it and putting it into operation.

To prepare the raw material there are also many pretreatment facilities present: drying, shredding, briquetting and pressing of egg or pillow type coal pellets.

All biological or organic material in principle can be converted in cooking coal or a fuel, and not only the lumps, chunks or pellets, we can also use mowed material like grass, straw and hay. Even mixtures of manure and sludge were already successfully converted into black fuel pellets.

A second test installation is our Swirl Reactor, which can be used to test all sort of heat processing technologies:

  • Drying of wet feedstock when shredded to smaller particles
  • Combusting of dry solid fuels, like wood dust, grass particles and alike, chicken manure, sludges, etc.
  • Gasifying smaller particles likewise, including waste plastics, paper
  • Expanding certain heat sensitive materials like clay, perlite etc.

Of course this list could be expanded endlessly, but you as a customer will know best as to what you would like to investigate and where you want to work out a business case, using these technologies.

Polow has long term knowledge from, experience with different gasifier types, each suited for its own application. Polow also will supply you with solutions for the cleaning of the syngas in order to be able to use gas engines or even turbines in the near future as means to convert the “waste” into electricity and heat.

swirl reactorBased on extensive knowledge build on years of experience with heat processes like combustion, gasification etc., Polow can advise you on cost effective and energy efficient sustainable installations, which will convert waste or fresh organic solid fuels into energy or a coal alike energy carrier, whatever makes the better business case. All our work is focused on simple, low cost and low maintenance operations to the benefit of our clients. Our main design rule is “Keep It Simple”!
